Ah, good deal. I'm Omaha on PB. Are you a subscriber to the magazine as well? Great resource if you're not. They had an article in the last issue about a bass heavy pond that was great for quick trips with kids to get them on lots of little bass.

Ya I go to pond boss eveyday. That where I got the information about adding the FHM to keep the bass off the bluegills untill they get a little bigger. The 100 bass I stocked and the 30 or more my older boys did. ( that I was told afterwards) are about 8" to 12" they hit everything I put in the pond. It not nothing to hit the pond at 8:00AM and catch 10 little bass by 9:00AM
Pond Boss is a great site information on adding lime to controlling weeds. That the great thing about the wed teaches old dogs new tricks. And man do I ever need help.

If you haven't checked out PondBoss, you must. It will become your go-to. If you like a pond geared towards little anglers, stock it full of little bass. You'll have easy catch LMB and trophy BG.

Man that's a nice looking pond. My pond was an after thought. I had a plumbing crew with nothing to due for a week so out of the blue I had them did my retention pond. Really just used the ironor to build a drive. Pond filled up and then I got this brain fourt to add fish to it. Now it's my new hobby. Added fish and grandbabie to it. The web and people on this site has only flued my drive to try and manage it so the kids can have fish to catch. By dumb luck it's starting to come around.
Here in Texas Bass is king but need to feed them and the blurgills are fun to watch when the kids hook up on the bigger ones in the pond. I need help and that why I started this little grow What are you doing right? what i'm doing wrong? how the pond coming alongs. Pictures & Pictures.

The HBG product 80% male that the issue. I'm going to add 100Bluegills near the end of the month. After this March spawning when i'm really going to know ( I hope) the ratio bluegills and bass. As far as the bass feed on the feed it looks like they are. They might just be feeding on who ever is feeding lol. All the fish are still small for the most part. But as you know a 10" bass will eat a 5" bluegill. Ya feeding $10 per lb to catch $3 per ld fish lol But it for these grandbabies and Pawpaw
Just wish the rain and weather would get a little better so I can get back out there.

Ah, very cool Rick. Same size BOW as me. From my (limited) research I have read that HBG will not produce enough forage to withstand LMB predation, but you're taking a very hands on approach with constantly stocking forage so it might work for you. Are the LMB eating pellets?

My pond is about 3/4 of an acre. The HBG i really don't know yet. I been stocking FH minnow to try and keep the bass off of the BG until they get a little bigger( 5lb per month). I feeding them everyday and even with the cool weather they are hitting the feed. What I have done in my small pond is to build a 6ft x 6ft pvc (1" pipe) feeding box. This keep the feed in one place and not float all over the pond. It's thier dinner table lol

Thanks Rick. How big is your pond and are you concerned your HBG will not provide enough forage for your LMB?
Comment by Magnolia Rick on February 3, 2010 at 6:36pm
cool you and the kids will injoy it. I got about 150LMB and 400HBG

I'm building a 3/4 acre pond near Springfield, NE. About halfway done with the dig when the snow hit. Hoping to stock smallies, yellow perch and redears.
