The ice just thawed on my ponds yesterday and looking forward for the temp to go up some. Ponds are looking pretty good, just hope I didn't lose too many fish the two times my ponds flooded. We had record rainfall this year and one day it rained ten inches. Worst flood I've seen and my neighbors that have lived here for thirty and forty years said it was the worst they had seen. Next week will be testing the water and set up plans for the coming year. Got to aireate the pond this year and looking at different systems. Thinking of going with the bottom tubing type to lift the bottom water to the top to use more water for the fish.. Wish me luck. LOL

Ok weather going back up here in south Texas, Mid 60’s the next 10 day. I added the 250 pounds of line and the fertilized and ready for the spawning to begin. The 200- 5” to 6” bluegills will be ready to be picked up tomorrow. What I’ve read and been told the bass will start spawning in south Texas when the water temp gets and stay about 60 to 65.
The gill will start spawning the first full moon in mid March depending on water temp.
Where everyone at with their pond? Has the ice melted yet? As I mention in earlier post the main predators will hit my pond as soon as school is out for the summer

Yeah, I'm sorry I keep "plugging" PB. I just can't keep away those thread flashbacks when I see pond questions. ;D You should have some great BG fishing for the grandkids in no time...Pawpaw. ;)

ya I post it on the harvest discussion Ya 3" might be pushing it ( we can always dream) but it I can keep the feed to them they will be 7 to 8" easy. reading pond boss and talking to the people at the hatchery most growth will be during the warm weather. Here in south Texas it'll be above 65 degree by the first of March.
My hope are having good size fish catching fish for my grandkids this summer. Ferdalizing pond this month too. Just reading pond boss keeps we from making the wrong move.

I think 3" is a lot to ask, but maybe you're right. You've probably seen it already, but did you see this page on PB? - http://www.pondboss.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Boar...

Ok final fish stocking this weekend adding 200- 5" to 6" bluegills from the Bail Barn in Bryan Texas and another 5lb of flathead minnow. Then we'll be doing the wait and see. The minnows should help keep the bass off of the gills for awhile. Spawning they telling me will start next month. Right now from checking fish caught log biggest bass is right at 12" I've set my cutoff or keep size on the bass will be 16" How fast will my gill grow with the warmer weather and the feeding daily and will move to twice aday late next month. Should my 5 to 6" be about 8 to 9" by September?

I found this information about rainbow trout on the Keystone Hatchery website. My question is would the trout be biting in the fall and winter thereby giving me something to fish for during that time?

Rainbow Trout Option
50 pounds of Rainbow Trout stocked in the fall.
Rainbow Trout require water temperatures below 72°F and Dissolved Oxygen Levels above 5ppm…this eliminates 90% of ponds during the summer, but not during fall, winter & spring! You can stock these fish in the fall when water temperatures drop below 60°F and they will be yours to fish until the first significant heat wave!
