Skip the ducks unless you want major headache - they relish pellet food and will eat the heck out of it.

I think they're too fat. Made to be eaten. We have one we bought years ago kind of as a Easter thing for our son. 8 years later he thinks he's a dog.

Why can't livestock ducks (the ones sold at the feed store?) fly?
Comment by Josh Milczski (Omaha) on February 25, 2010 at 6:41pm
If you establish proper habitat, ducks should find your pond on their own, but I do believe you can buy ducklings at some feed & grain type stores. They will not be a detriment to your fish population or interfere with human activity as they will likely avoid you at all costs, usually, unless you feed them to make them friendlier. In a small BOW, however, I have read that ducks can be detrimental. They like to root around quite a bit along the shoreline and their waste could become a problem if you have a lot of them. Their frequency to your pond may be determined by other surrounding ponds. If there are many, the ducks will hop from pond to pond and visit yours on occasion. If you're the only pond, their visits may become more infrequent. Honestly, if you just want a couple ducks to look at and enjoy your water, buy those livestock ducks. They can't fly away and they'll just make your little pond their home.

Anyone have information about getting ducks and putting them in the pond? Will they eat some of the small fish like bass will? Will they interfere with fishing? Will they fly away? Will I have to feed them too? Is there a Duck Boss? I love ducks!

Weather has warm up and the fish are really hitting the feed. I've started ( will mawmaw did) feeding twice aday today. Mid 60's hope the last blast of cold weather has come and gone. Got a lot of work today in the next few weekend to get thing ready for the spawning to start.

I'M JUST A POND BOSS HACKEY LOL
And old and slow. But I'm starting to really get into this pond building stuff. Now if one the fish will help.
