lol my hybird gill eat minnows You should still have a few but I'm sure the other fish will eat them. I use FHM for bait when fishing. How big were your bass? A 6" bass will eat a 2" minnow.

That side of the pond is shallow and frequented by all the critters. The 1 lb of minnows I put in Monday are nowhere to be seen on that side. All the redear, bluegill, and hybrids were the same size when I put them in. The 25 bass I bought Monday are smaller than most of the bg.

If the hybrids are larger than fingerling size, they probably ate most of the redear. Cormorants and herons both will eat the heck out of fish as well, so those redear had no chance. You might think about trying to encourage the birds to find a pond somewhere else because they will eat a LOT of fish.

my two ponds are connected, I put redear on the small size as the fish guy said they were more aggressive. I only catch hybrids on that size so far. I don't know what happened to the minnows and redear since there are hybrids over there so the water is not toxic. I've decided to now worry about it since I want to have bluegills and coppernose only

Sharon, I wouldn't think any of those animals would decimate a population of fish like that. Something else?

I caught my first bluegill today. All the others were hybrid. What a difference in color. Haven't got any redear though. I think something ate them all in the smaller pond they were put in. All the minnows are gone from that side of the pond too. Wonder what's over there. Seen a snake, blue heron, cormorant, turtles.

I have a picture taken with a disposible camera. Our digital camera is always blurry. They are in Walmart now. Very excited about getting that first eatable fish.

cool got your pond stocked and ready to go. You'll have biggills in not time.
Keep pouring the feed to them. I notice my hybird really hit the small minnow
Now that it's warming up they'll really start putting on the weight. Take picture

Sharon, if big bluegill are your main focus with the pond, you have to have bass, so it's good you stocked some. Catfish will not keep pure-strain bluegill, either northern or coppernose, from overpopulating; they might keep nothing but hybrids, but not regular bluegill.
