During the 50's, yellow perch were widely established in the South in a wide ranging Federal stocking program.
This effort was developed under the administration of .. you guessed it.... Dwight Eisenhower. This is where they got the name "eisenhowers."

PS channels catfish were also widely distributed under this same program, and you could get them delivered to your ponds for free at the behest of the government. I have a friend who says the fish in one of his ponds are descended from these same 1950 stockers.
In fact, he still refers to all channel cats as, "guv'mint catfish."
