Its not a ship Jay but I know it will be fun. I finally got the rest of what I need to make it happen this last week end. Now I guess all I have to do is make the plunge. You know what I mean.
Hi All - Just so you know - that's not me in my profile photo. That's my son. I am over 50. I have had a couple of round float tubes during my lifetime. I have had my current one for more than 25 years. I bought it new and it is still pretty much like new even though I have used it quite a bit. (It's a rubberized canvas covering over a truck tube.)
Anyway, now that I am starting to get creaky knees and HAVE a back that acts up very badly at times I decided last season that I am DONE messing with the slipping, sliding, and sometimes poor footing and balance issues that occur with my round tube.
So I am buying a "U" or "V" shaped tube in the next week or so. Unfortunately these are not at all popular in Indiana so I just have to make an educated guess and order one. I am looking at a couple of the top of the line models so I should be ok.
I tend to be in the water for several hours unless I am fishing someplace with little in the way of shade. Then I only fish early or late. So I don't mind doing a lot of paddling although I mind it a lot less with flippers than with the "pedal pusher" type kickers I used for several years (but those are a LOT easier to enter and leave the water with).
Just thought I'd add my two cents. Have fun Dick! Tell us how your new ship rides in the water. :)
Jay
Excellent Dick. Got photo of your new ride?! Must be loaded with leather seat, cup holder for the beers, a huge cooler in the back, and some thumping sound system blaring at the back *LOL*
Leo I think I'm ready to go. Got my fins and pump and of coarse my life jacket. At a latter date I'll be doing some of those PVC upgrades. Thanks for the info
Chris, you have to ask yourself a few questions on top:
With that being asked, both types of floats are required to be inspected if you're entering into a lake that requires it. Proper care and maintenance, with quick check by the site's inspector will make the process extremely painless. At Lake Perris, when I'm launching at the boat launch areas, it took me less than 3 minutes, including paperwork. The longest point of it all is trying to recall my freaking license plate from my phone. I play smart now by having my license plate written onto my fishing license that I wear around my neck.
I have been looking at buying either a tube or Inflatable pontoon.
I have a question I resently though of.
Do either of these have to be inspected for mussels before they can be used in lakes.
Im looking at either a tube for next year, or a kayanoe hybrid. This year its a catfishing/panfishing boat!
I have been looking at getting either a float tube or an inflatable
pontoon boat. I like the fact the pontoon boat can carry a very heavy load. 350 pounds is what the one I am looking at.
I would use which ever one I get, when I am fishing solo.
Other wise I will be on the bank or in the john boat my daughter & I am building. Is one of these inflatables better than the other ?
It looks like I can get a good deal on either one.
TIA.
I really don't know i'm in the market so I'll keep my ears open and learn as I observe the site. I PLAN ON GETTING ONE BY SPRING. I NEED A HEAVY DUTY ONE.
I guess this is going to be my new mode of fishing. Don't know anything yet but since I'm going to purchase one this spring I guess I better learn all I can.
