I use a BPS U tube and inexspensive Orvis waders to make the guys in the big bass boats upset when they watch me catch fish in spots they cant reach. Lots of holes at the entrance to creeks off Kentucky Lake (3 miles away) and Barkley Lake ( a little farther). The creeks are at the back of the bays and the water is only 1 or 2 feet deep going in. I also use a kayak when the snakes are in season (spring).

Good for you Rob. Floating while fishing, either a tube, pontoon or kayak is the way to go. Nothing more exciting than being pulled around on a "redneck sleigh ride" by a big 'ol fish.

Rob,
Those are 2 great pictures! You look really excited catching that fish from the tube. I am guessing that the fish you were bring in was the channel cat. I am also totally hooked on float tubing even though my "tube" is made from syrofoam. I just bought a "fishinbuddy" Depth Finder that I really like. I have only used it one time but I think it is going to be a great tool. Have a Merry Christmas!

I got into float tubing in July 2008. I was scarred as hell the first hour I used. I am totally hooked on float tubing. I've already had to deal with one emergency situation while night fishing in 40 degree temps. I somehow knocked the valve cap off my tube. I made it to the bank (barely). I filled it back up and fished a couple more hours. My next tube will be a multi bladder tube. I think the fact that you really don't have any leverage on the fish is what appeals to me. It is a true tug of war.

Purchased a K-Pump for my pontoon boat. This is a geat tool and make inflating much easier. It is a little pricey ($80) but is well made and does a great job. And unbeleivably I found the best price through Orvis. Came with a bag to attach to your boat, so to keep properly inflated at all times. It has reduced setup time considerably. Just passing along info.

Bruce, that is a great choice, I believe Kershaw has one of those, and it serves him well! I really like the stipping apron on that model as apposed the the apron on mine, the FC4 i got last year, it isn't very stiff and requires the improvement of tying a tote lid underneath of it. Also, put a tape against measurements on the apron, If it's like mine, It's off by a few once you get past 5-6"

Great choice in my humble opinion. If this one does not have inflatable seat you are good to go. There have been a few issues with air leaks in the seat .Foam filled is great and more reasonable.
One should shop around. My fat Cat was $200 online special for yellow only and my Fish Cat#4s were on sale at BPS for $100 for a short time .I'm a bit on the frugal side at times.lol ole
I'm excited at just the thought you might get a Fish Cat#4. Every person that got one on my suggestion has liked them.
This is also the time of year to look around for a double action air pump on sale at Wall Mart type stores. ole Mike

I'm in the market for a new float tube. I've been fishing for twelve years with an old Creek Company model and I'm planning on getting something new and exciting. Do you think this is a good choice?

Would I be welcome here in this group?
I have an Outcast Fat Cat float tube and 2 Outcast Fish Cat#4s I'm fishing now from the Fat Cat and reserve the other for guests or grandsons. I also got a pair of #4s for my son and wife a couple years ago and they love them.
I also use the cheap Outcast fins but removed the retainer safety rear strap as they float .
I have had many issues with waders though. I use Cabelas fair high end waders and ready for another trip to Prairie Du Chien for replacement. (groan) I have always used stocking foot waders and will now switch to boot foot due to leak issues.
I probably shouldn't whine too much as I use these much more than most would.
I've never had safety issues with my float tube on water but am recovering from broke ankle when I fell into a rain slicked washout while horseing my tube through a thick willow patch. I put a shoe on two days ago and soon to be up and flipping the tube if water temp allows.
More clothing issues- Using a float tube in the summer wearing old shorts is GREAT! However ,do NOT cross weed mats with bare legs. There is some critter residing there similar to chiggers. If you have a little open water spot to enter you'll be fine.
I didn't intend to get so windy here, just love my tubin for gills. ole Mike
