Sinking lines? 5 Replies

i just started fly fishing last year, so I have only used a floating line. If i wanted to fish clousers and streamers, will they get down ok with floating line, or is a sinking line the way to go?

I have fly fished for many years but I have never caught a crappie on the fly. A lot on minnows but never on a fly. I checked in to learn how to catch a few on the long rod.Continue

Here's two versions of the ClousoBugger. The rootbeer colored one has been eaten before,so the hackle has some chewage. The main idea here is that the size 12 hook is highly protected from hangs by the beadchain eyes, which are quite wide in relation to the fly.Heavier eyes in extra small size are great, but they are not as weedless in effect.I am delighted by the quality of Whiting's latest Bugger Pack hackles-there's alot of hackles/flies in a pack. The bodies are of UV Micro Estaz, and Rootbeer Micro Estaz.

I operate here in NE NC,a little south and east of our great teacher and Idol--JDA--who doesn't know me,but I sure see his posts and bow down to his prowess with the Bee-Gees(and friends).Last Sunday I managed a mixed bag on a local river, but notably took nice crappies on a "clouso-bugger" fly, crappies that seemed to JUMP,more often than not!I will post a pic of this fly over the Mem Day W/E,because it appears to be extra weedless while having no occlusion to the hook point. It also caught 10 lbs of bass in two casts."   Back after the shoot.....
