My favorite method of fishing,is definetly top water.And my favorite things to make are top water lures.For gill's, I like to use bugs from # 14 - # 4. Heres a few.

I never had a fly rod but love top water. Here is a post I made in July 8th using a spinning rod, loads of fun. If I knew how to repost it I would.
