What state would you choose to fish Bluegill if you could only pick one?

We are fortunate to have members from all over this great nation...One of my favorite things about Bigbluegill.com is the instant connection with the people that love and enjoy the same things that I do when it comes to all things Bluegill from folks all over the country.....Many of us have also had the great experience of fishing several different states whether vacationing, traveling for work or as a result of moving..... If you could pick one state to fish Bluegill, what state would it be and why? Thanks for sharing and I expect this may be a difficult choice for some and very easy for others.....Again, thanks in advance!

Hi folks, been busy but I still love the Bluegills..I believe I would have to pick the great state of  Alabama and all points south, such as Lower Georgia and Florida.. but I can only pick one, so I pick the State of The MIll Pond, North Carolina...take me sometime Bruce....I just turned down a 30 hour deep sea trip but I think a trip to the Mill Pond would be a life changing experience..LOL.

If it is for one day only, I would have to say NC. and at Richmond Hill. I have always wanted to fish Lakes Moultrie and Marion in SC as well. Lake Havasu would be another spot, as I love big 'Crackers.  OMG .... so many choices! I would like to one day fish with each and every one of you  on your home waters.  A day with Bill Modica teaching his spoon fishing techniques first hand, would be a great learning experience. Like I said... so many choices!

YOU DON'T NEED MY ANSWER CAUSE YOU ALREADY KNOW WHERE I'M HEADED IN MAY SIR JEFFREY!!!! TOUGH QUESTION : IF I could only pick one spot I've been it would be IOWA, the whole state , but in particular the SOUTH EAST CORNER! DON'T KNOW why that state is so good but it is vastly overlooked I believe and glad no one goes there!! Took the year off from Iowa this year but going back next year with EH3 and the red ears and gills can stand by! Have my new shrimp patterns to try out THANKS TO JIM G. and have always overlooked that color and pink for that matter too. VVVVVVVVVVVVERY ANXIOUS TO GIVE A TOSS IN IOWA next year!

I've got many memories in Michigan waters and fish under my belt. I can honestly say that about 95% of my fish were released to be caught another day. Many, many great memories.

I'd like to spend a day on Richmond Mill with Bruce Condello and Jim Gronaw.....I wouldn't even have to wet a line. I'd bait their hooks, take off their fish, carry the gear, make lunch...whatever. As long as I'm allowed to ask questions.

That's a "no-brainer" for me.  California!  With the introduction of Florida strain Bluegills into several of our lakes a couple decades ago, the new panfish just got bigger and bigger.  With such great weather and fertile lakes like my nearby Lake Perris,  Lake Skinner and Diamond Valley, the Bluegill in Southern California have grown really large.  Also at "semi-private" Lake Barrett near San Diego, it's not unusual to see Bluegill that are easily 2 pounds caught DAILY by bass fishermen.  Some are even larger!  And these are the "Northern strain", NOT coppernose Bluegill!  If I could fish anywhere for trophy BGs, Barrett would be my choice.

What this informal survey has confirmed for me is more bluegill anglers would choose their current state than other anglers...Yes, folks talk about that once in a lifetime trip here or there but most folks have been passionate about their home waters and that's what makes bluegill fishing so rewarding to us....Thanks for your inputs and please share your experiences if you get that chance to fish a new state or you go back home for a while.....Thanks in advance...

Thats me, Jeff. The world record bluegill was caught in Alabama. The biggest red ear came out of California. But South Carolina has accounted for its own share of whoppers and I prefer to fish when I can, as much as I can and that means close to home.

The Palmetto State is it for me.

Now don't laugh we don't have a pile of lakes with gills in them but what we do have is little pressure and big gills because of it. Most states will have more people fishing on a lake then we have people living in a county.
