Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ever went and looked at your states record fish and say to your self..... Ive caught and eat one bigger than that! OMG Its happened to me. I would love to nail the WRBB but as we all know I got a better chance of winnin the lottery a half dozen times in a row of catchin that monster. Ive only seen one 2lb gill in my entire life on the end of my pole. Well make that 2. The other was prolly pushin 3lbs of shellcraker. Dang thang made me madder than a pack of wild dogs on a 3 legged cat when it broke my favorite BnM telescopic pole. Any way....... I was just lookin at my state records and I got alllllllll excited when I seen warmouth record was  1lb 12oz. Ive beat that. I eat that. Ive released a couple back. I got a few holes that in the dead heat of summer I can really put a whappin on em. This year my friends I SHALL BE A BIG BLUEGILL STATE RECORD HOLDER!!!!!!

Do you have a state record you think you may have thrown back? Ive done it and I know other folks who have.

I thank I can do it.
I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can I thank I can.

I KNOW I CAN!!!!!

That is a nice pair! But they aren't bluegills.
Those are warmouth bream, which is how Mayo plans to get his record I bet. I'm bettin' on his sweetie beatin' him to the punch.

These are the lil guys that we kept to eat. Throwing the big boys back to catch again on our next trip.
Well Mayo, I sure hope you catch the new record instead of your sweetie. 'Cause if she catches the big one it'll be, we hoped she would, we hoped she would, we hoped she would.

Good Luck, and may the best attractor of the record win. I'm bettin' on the attractive one.

CORRECT A MOONDOE!
I hope she does, I hope she does, I hope she does. But if she doesn't, I hope he does.
My brother and I were fishing Caddo Lake about three years ago when he caught a huge Northen Pike. We laid it in the boat and took a digital pic of it next to a tape mesure, the released it back into the lake. Upon going back to where we were staying, we showed the pic to several locals and found it beat the state record by seven inches. My brother was heart sick. I told him I should have measured the grennal I caught, but it didn't make him feel any better. We have gone back to that same spot every year about the same time of year and fished and fished and fished, but no state record....... But, with the picture, it makes a great story.
Back when the Maryland record for yellow perch was 2 lbs and 7 ozs, I had caught a couple of fish that would have challenged it. However, the record now stands at a phenomenal 3 lbs and 5 ozs...likely way out of reach and it was the 4 th heaviest ever recorded in the U.S.

The Maryland record for brown bullhead stands at 3 pounds and 6 ozs. I have taken at least two fish that I feel were in excess of 4 pounds from Piney Run Lake. One was 19.5 in and the other was 21 inches. Both were taken many years ago before a bull head record was established.

I have taken two highfin quillback that were in the 7 pound range but chose not to kill a member of this obscure specie for the sake of a line-class world record.

Maryland panfish records are unbelievable with a 4-8 crappie, a 3-7 bluegill and that 3-5 yellow perch. I think they are all safe for a while!
