Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Also found out my camera isn't working so well. LOL

Ordered a new Echo Glass 486-4 (8'6" 4pc 4wt) "outfit" with a new Orvis Battenkill reel. Took it to the lake to cast it this afternoon (no fishing today - too cold to stay out long). I found the reel was way too light to balance the rod. I called the dealer (several hours away in driving time) and he told me to ship the reel back and he would exchange it for an Echo Ion reel (about 2.5 oz more weight).  I tried the rod at home with a similar weight (to the Ion) Okuma reel and it felt much better. Love the slower action of glass, though. It fits my aging body better than fast graphite. Should be ready to fish when it warms up (hopefully soon!).

Nice!

I've got an old Heddon Pal 8wt glass rod.  Don't have a reel for it.  I've taken the reel off my TFO 8wt and put it on the Pal, and I can definitely tell that I'd need a heavier reel for it.  Definitely a slower casting stroke to it.

nice set up.those echo rods are pretty.should be able to make some long casts with that 8'6

Ah, who deserves it more than you? Nobody!

i have an old eagle claw 7ft 6 weight. It was passed to me when my father passed. Its a glass rod and has a lot slower action than im used to but ive found that in windy conditions that rod really excells at pushing the line through the wind. My pappy really new what he was doing as he showed me that you need more than just one rod to accomplish the task.
