Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I've recently started having issues cleaning the fish we catch.  I have always filleted every fish that we have taken and prepared great meals; however, the last two times I've had a cleaning session, the next day my finger tips on my hand that holds the fish become soar and red.  Then about a week later my finger tips peal.

I've been trying to do some research and it sounds like I've developed an allergy which results in contact dermatitis.  Does this happen to anyone else??  I think this weekend when I'm cleaning the fish I will wear gloves.  I just don't know if that will make me clumsy with the fish!  Any advice or contribution is helpful!

First time I've heard of it.

I'm a cook by trade.  Go to the grocery store, in the cleaning section, and get a pack of Nitrile Gloves.  That's what we use in kitchens.  Think latex surgical gloves (those will work as well, if you have a source).

You could also find tons of different gloves to suit your needs at a drug store as well.

Thanks guys!  I think I do need to go with the gloves because I'm not going to stop cleaning what we catch.  There's just so much that the kids get out of fishing and then cooking their catch over the fire!!

My first thought was a sensitivity based reaction, that has developed over time. Something similar happened to me, although unrelated to fish.
Gloves sound like a good idea.

Quite common actually. Our bodies change every day, little by little, or drastically without us realizing until something big appears. You may be exposed to a bacterial infection from handling the few last batches. Now, your body mount a strong reactive defense because the bacteria are showing signs of immunity threats.

amy-- my best advise is-- get somebody else to clean those fish!!  you go get the batter ready!! hush puppies; French fries cole slaw   hey others have to do their part to!!   LOL!!

Carl has the right idea....
:-)

Doctors wear cloves all the time and I hope when they are operating they aren't clumsy that wouldn't be pretty.

.

well david-- you know what they say-- great minds think alike!!

I don't clean fish gloved in but I do operates on animals in gloves. Be sure you get a glove that will stretch tightly over your finger tips like a second skin. Sterile latex surgery gloves cost about 50 cents a pair but you don't need sterile. Latex exam gloves should be the ticket if you do not have a latex allergy.
