Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Quick question:  Do you guys have a go to float?  Or do you keep an arsenal of them in your main box?

Thanks John, I will have to try and find some of those. I like floats like that for pole fishing.

Ah ,Pole fishin'. I gotta try that ,less frustrating right? No line coils and snags with small diameter line on spinning reels .You're the smart one here! Tell me about Pole fishin' please.Would like to read a post of yours describing gear, bait  and tactics.I 'm all ears!

I can make pole fishing frustrating.Everything I know about it I learned from Jeff.

Jeff who/ BTW you have the best profile pics!Like your new one!

Johnny Wilkins is "the Float Man",not me! Thanks though Dwayne. I'm learning and been doing it , as an adult, four years now .As a kid it was round plastic Bobbers which I never use anymore .I carry a small one as you see in the pic but never go to it .Next year I may for old time sake to see if its handy at times under active conditions but I really think they're not as good as Pencil and Pear shapes  and  torpedo shapes (if that's the right term) like the orange foam in the bottom of the floats pic I posted .Matching for size fish intended and bait used  and weighting them to set well in the water is a real learning experience and I'm green but have been successful with some sizes and varieties.

You are the slip bobber man! I would love to find some of the real small cork floats, always had good luck with them.

Cork is something I want to try as well.I would like to file wine corks to several sizes and shapes and thread line with a tough needle like a bait needle . http://www.eagleclaw.com/product/tools/baiting-needle I'm imagining one could push and pull line through using a pliers.

Experiment with different floats/baits/jigs and you'll find which ones you like better. I like a float that's just big enough to float my bait. I also like a weighted float for further casting. I like the traditional shaped floats except I like the lighter, styrofoam versions.

I fish slip floats a lot. I'm experimenting with making my own currently.

And doing a fantastic job of it ."You da float man":)

So what I'm gathering from all of this is to try a slip float vs the other types of bobbers?

Well even if you use fixed floats try pencil and pear shapes and waggler style slip floats  for less resistance .Read Johnny Wilkins ,he's is the best read I know on the subject along with Tony Livingston's input .Tips like getting the line under the water out of the wind ,getting the weight away from the hook , using well designed  shot and applying group shot and spread shot the "right " way .My own experience with the gear I can find in shops I visit and  the fish as teachers has taught me well but Johnnys experience takes a lot of trial and error out of the picture .

Excellent Johnny work :
