Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This evenin as me and my wife was have'n supper I mentioned a trip to the lake would be kinda nice, the wind had laid down for the first time in a week and it was just to nice outside not to go.

We had the lake to our self, at first it didnt look like it was gonna happen but after it started get'n later in the evenin the fish turned on a little, wound up with 2 small bass, 2 small blue gill, and 2 very nice crappie, not a bad evenin at all.

Score for the day was wife...2(but she did catch the biggest crappie) & me...4, the little panther martin came thru again.

When you said a little 'quickie' with the wife, well.... My mind went in another direction for a minute.

I think it's nice that your wife enjoys fishing with you.

I gripe & growl when she goes because its a constant "I'm hung in the tree", "Its in a big knot"(backlash to you & me) or the ever popular "Your not gonna fish?" ( I dont have time to fish when my wife & daughter go).

Its fun but she has a different mindset than me when it comes to fish'n, I'm into always try to learn a new trick of the trade but shes all it worked once it'll work again & it frustrates me to no end.

The end result is if they (her & my daughter) catch somethin its a good time.

Ah, so you're a patient man. That's nice. Fishing is an interesting paradox between the sexes.

Men that don't normally have an ounce of patience, may spend hours and hours trying to get angling down to a science. Only a few women, by comparison, have the patience to really learn the pastime, as a rule... while they tend to be very patient in every other pursuit.

I think it's interesting that she never see's you struggling with her tackle and other issues.... and then wonders why you aint fishin'. LOL

I used to grumble, too, when my ex-wife wanted to go fishing. She was a pretty good catcher, overall, but there were always the kids to contend with. However, when she would occasionally tie into a big one, she'd lose all sense as to what to do. And whenever there was trouble, a snag or whatever, it was handed off to me to resolve.

I think that is universal. The men are the fixers.

I did hit on one thing though: I rarely had to deal with the rod and reel issues, as I supplied her and the kids with Zebco spincasters - the spinning and baitcasting rigs were for me. Eventually, my kids got big enough that I could instruct them individually.

For the record, both my daughter and son turned out to be pretty good anglers. They still prefer "push button" reels, though, but there is nothing wrong with that.

I'll take a little credit for their success, I suppose.

I guess that's the way it goes with fishing men and their women. I can't say too much.

My second wife, Lori, doesn't fish. Plain and simple; she doesn't fish.

If I want to go, fine. Lemme go and enjoy myself. She is glad I have a pursuit. But don't waste your breath asking her to go.

Fish'ns a great way to unwind from the daily grind, we all enjoy it but maybe I'm a bit of a perfectionist, OCD rite?

Part of the reason is if she ever hangs a really good fish I want her to experience the whole thing, the fight, catch, & release, told her catch'n fish is fun but catch'n big fish is a lot more fun.

At least I had her use'n a panther martin rooster tail teh other day,HER: "I hate to anything I have to reel all the time", ME: "shut up and keep after it, mite suprise yourself.", in a minute or two she cuaght a crappie, some times ya just gotta make a stand. ( lucky I came out unscaved)

We went to another place this evenin and not a bite, its time I broke down and bought a set of paddles for my flat bottom so we can reach some unexplored territory.

Have to say youve made some very good observations, good insight.

We might also observe the Rooster Tail and those lures like them, (classic in line spinners), have been fish getters for a long time... longer than we've been around, I reckon.

It's worth keepin' a mess of 'em on hand, for sure.
