Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

While planning this week's trip, I came across a black bucket that was to be used to watch this BG color change act I've read about several times. Since my plans include actually handling some fish, I figure it's as good a time as any to see if this works or not.

I have a few questions going into it:

Do I need a lid to make the containment completely dark?

Male or female BG, does it make a difference?

Time frame? If I remember correctly, 15 minutes was mentioned somewhere along the line.

Looking forward to witnessing this magic act first hand.
