Do you love big bluegill?

hey guys welcome to my latest group. i would like everyone to tell their 5 favorite artificial lures they use for big bluegill or crappie. (i already know musky mod's.....spoons!!!) Here are mine

1.gulp alive 1 inch minnow-- a cheaper but less effective substitute is the Fin-S-shad in 1 inch

2. small white beetle spin grub with red dot (no spinner)

3.Jim gronaws hair jigs (thanks jim they are great!!!)

4.my homemade fake crickets

5. bluefox spoons

i like to use almost all gulp products like maggots and worms and nibblets too.

1.White Feather jig w/Red head,Marabou and Bucktail jigs also(Spring thru Fall)
2.small spoons 12th oz ,10th oz.sometimes up to 8th oz like the smaller Crocodile spoons Late Spring thru Fall)
3.#0 Mepps Spinner ,red Blade(Late Spring thru early Fall)
4.small Rapala (Spawning Season)
5.micro ice jigs(hard water)

Last years (2011 )best Gill came on a BlueFox #2 Spinner!I can't ever recall catching a Gill on that big a size spinner .I'll usually throw a #0 or #1.Give them a try guys .I triggered the fish by sweeping the rod and picking up slack. The fish hit on the fall and was on at the next sweep. I feel this fish was following underneath and behind the lure and when I  stalled and let the lure fall back and down this nice Gill  reacted .It was hanging near a fallen oak Tree in the water depth was   3-6 ' deep. It was caught September 10th 2011.

I use live bait most of the time but I do use artificial lures alot of the time. I caught a lot of nice bluegills this year is plain 1/32 oz jighead with Gulp small red worm. Many crappies on this lure, too! When I am in Florida and live bait is hard to find then I use 1/80 to 1/64 oz plain jig with two Gulp maggots. Several over 10 inch 'gills on this lure.
I also like to use 1/64 oz jig with black or pumpkinseed twister, small feather jig with a Gulp maggot, and small tube jig for crappie and many bluegills! Small roostertail and tiny Mepps is also good for me in the past!
try those gulp alive 1 inch minnows on a 1/32 or 1/64 jig head. they catch everything
I have the miracle lure I just found out. Try using a strike king baby bream. It is like a beatle spin but instead of that little plastic "beatle", it has a tiny bream. I literally caught 25 fish in one day with it, from 2 lb. bass, to feisty bluegill. Caught biggest gill of my life with it.

Sounds productive Jon .Nice going! Got a link ?What is the weight and size of the lure?

I use live bait alot....small crawfish mostly...the big ones love them!! I do also use small spoons trailed with power grubs or night crawlers and the rebel crawfish lure.
Even though these work pretty good for me..Im always looking for other lures or combos to try so I love this discussion...thanks!!
I forgot to add the Rebel Crawfish Tiny wee R as a fav in my list abvove this blog ...it is a killer multi-species lure that includes Blue Gill.
I like the small white beetle spin also and I use popper flys size 8 white, yellow, and green

I agree Clint ,poppers on the flyrod are the funest way to catch BGand PS. and 32nd oz Beetle spins work well on Bluegills and Pseeds!

1. Popping bug on a fly rod from April through September on and around the beds.  Bumble bee pattern with white legs works best.

2. 1/8 oz Rooster Tail on an ultra-light from July through March, near the beds and on the points.  Yellow or white works best with a silver or bronze blade.

Only need these two.  Always catch my limit of 10 keeper Bluegills (half pound or more).

Hmm, the only artificial I can say I've caught many gills on are:

1. Soft plastic grubs, rigged Slider style.

That's it. Seriously. I try all the stuff I see here, from poppers to Beetle Spins and I strike out. Maybe its the fish, maybe it's me.

But I keep trying. I reckon I'll hit on some magic one of these times!
