Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I moved to south florida around 7 years ago. I had always flyfished for trout and wanted to learn more about flyfishing for bass & panfish. One day I  happened to see an article in Florida Sportsman magazine about a fresh water fishing guide who specialized in flyfishing. After going on my first guide trip with "Pete" and catching my first bass on a popper, I knew I was hooked. He changed  me from being a novice flyfisherman to a highly skilled angler. We developed a great friendship over the years and as time went on he got out of the guide business due to his age and etc. For the last 5 years he and I would fish once a week. Recently, due to health reasons & taking a fall, I realized that I probably wont be able to go fishing with my buddy anymore like I used to. He always used to say " Whens the best time to go fishing"  and he would respond "Whenever you can". What I've learned is don't take anything for granted. Anytime you can go fish with a buddy or friend, do it. Secondly, I need to pass on what was taught to me to someone else. I will miss fishing with my buddy tremendously. Someday, I hope to find another great buddy to fish with.

Well said Tim. I think it's very important to cherish the memories you shared instead of being sad that you won't fish with him again.
Omaha I agree. There was many time I should have spent with my dad. But there was always something more pressing thing I had to do. Now he's gone and I know he missed the time we should have spent together. Ain't going to happen with my boys and grandkid. This little pond is building memories everyday for not only them but a whole lot for me. Go fishing and catch a lot of love and memories. THERE NO LIMIT
Thanks Tim great post.
A heartfelt post !This is good! You prove to be a good friend to Pete,Tim!
So very true, Tim. I don't get to fish nearly often enough with my best friend and those were the best times of my life. Nothing better than a rod in one hand and a bluegill in the other.
It is not very often you find someone to fish with that likes to fish the same way you do. More important is to actually find a fishing buddy. I have found since I retired It is really difficult to find a retired fishing buddy that wants to blue gill fish. Most all my buddies either play golf, travel, or just hang out at the house most of the time. So cherish the time you have to fish with a real fishing friend.
