Hello to everyone on bbg! I am currently at fort lee attending AIT and I am trying to find a dependable, and portable rod. Medium light to ultralight (preferably two or more peices) and a reel to match. plus some tackle and line to go along with it. I am going to be traveling a lot in the years to come so I am looking for a rod that will be able to come with me everywhere I go! All suggestions are welcome and I am looking forward to all the helpful responses! Thanck you in advanced!

Thanck you for the sugestion! I will keep this in mind when choosing.

JOSE;; ALKSO THINK OF;;  A GOOD ROD CARRIER; OR ;; ROD PROTECTOR !  ID YOUR TRAVELING A LOT;; YO UWILL NEED IT !  SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES ARE AVAILABLE;;  ALSO;; DEPENDING ON IF YOU HAVE HAND TOOLS;; A FEW EXTRA HOURS TO KILL;;; ONE OF;; PVC PIPE CUT IN HALF;; IS PRETTY MUCH INDRUSTICABLE !!     AND VERY MUCH LIKE MY VERY GOOD FRIEND;; MARK STINE SAYS;; A GOOD UGLY STICK;; IS A GREAT CHOICE ;;   THE SEDONA 1000 REEL ALSO !

Here is my favorite rod reel and line combo for storing in the car and traveling. It’s a great setup for B.Gills to monster SMB’s… catch em all on this setup… this setup has the biggest sweetspot for most fishing needs in my arsenal

Great question! My wife and I headed down to Houston a week or so ago and I carried along my 5 ft. St. Croix panfish rod. I mention it first because, well, I love it and it'll fit in the trunk or just lying across the back seat in most cars. I never got around to finding time to use it, but every creek I drove over, every pond . . . made me think about pulling over.

But, I have one of the new G-Rods in the trout model, too, and it breaks down into two pieces. It is made from Graphene, the one carbon atom thick matrix material and it is just fabulous. It has the best "feel" of all my rods. I have this rod matched with a Shimano Ci4+ 1000 series reel, and it is spooled with two pound Sufix Nanobraid. For artificial lures, I'd recommend carrying a small Plano box with a collection of small plastics, some small spoons, a few Mepps plain Aglias in "00" size. These are the sorts of lures many species are attracted to. I'd carry the Plano Box in a small tackle bag with a hand towel, extra line and other essentials.

I like a set up that is flexible for different species; you never know what might be in a particular area you travel to.

Oh!  I just received some .8 gram spoons, ran up to the boat dock yesterday late afternoon on Lake Athens Marina, caught 1 bass, 3 bluegills and 2 crappie and had a blast. It always pays to have a small rod ready to go and I took my little 5 footer for this occasion. I found I could cast this diminutive spoon about 40 feet. I was using the Nightmare color.
