That story made my day. Thank you.
Great story Dana... thanks for sharing...
Rob
I don't remember my first fish I went with my grandfather in the ocean all the time as a kid. I do remember both of my kids though. We go all the time now. My daughter especially loves it and like me can fish all day. My son is getting there. I absolutely love the time with my kids on the water! My daughter is 5 now and my son is 7.

what a great lookin fishing hole!
that bass isnt so small when you compare it to the size of the kid, its all relative!
that would be like us catching a 4 pounder.

UPDATE! Last weekend i took both kids, my son -6, and my little girl - 3, to one of the local fishing piers to kill a sunday morning. The previous weekend my little princess recieved her 1st fishing rod for her birthday, a stellar, highly engineered peice of angling equipment, more commonly known as "the Barbie pole"

I set my son set up with some fresh bait - he still doesnt have the hang of hooking a worm so that it stays on after one cast. He can now take his own fish off the line, and gets upset if you dont let him. (dang!) He was set to go.

I did the same for my daughter, baited, cast her line, and handed the rod over to her. She watched her bobber for all of 10 seconds before it went under.
Both my son and I start screaming "reel it in, reel it in!"
At that point i realized I never really showed her how to use the reel....stupid daddy.

Well, despite my lack of training, her insticts kicked in, and soon a small perch had succumb to the Barbie pole. If you look closely at the picture, you can see that my lil girl might be happy.
Oooooo, Daddy, I got one! That was at a little lake on Fort Polk called Alligator Lake. I think my daughter was 12 at the time. She dove at the flopping little bluegill and held on for dear life, and then proudly removed the hook herself. Thirty four years later, I've heard the same thing from her grandson, only now, it's Ooooo, Opa I got one! And it's the same species - bluegill - but it's a sand dredge pond called Valco in Colorado. You know the music - and the thrill - is the same? What a grand little fish!
i thought it was very fun (exciting!) if you want me to i'll put up the whole story of how i found this sit. it was all because of the first fish i cought
absolutely !
My first fish local park near my house, I was 5 it was 6 am I was decked out in warm clothes (thanks mom) hot chocholet and a donut 9 (thanks Dad). This was the first tiime either of us had fished so it was a full on learning moment. Total count one major fighting Bluegill. Well at least for a 5 year old, big catch was the bug for us to continue fishing for the rest of our lives. I will be back to share my kids stores, cool thing is all of there first fish were out of the same pond, and there are pictures of them as well.
well post the pics if you get a chance. Those are memories that will always be cherished.

This is a picture of my wife first pike through the ice. Why this is posted here is because my wife had no interest in fishing until last April she is so hooked on the sport I have to be the mature one and remind about houseold chores ( I hate thet part) She was so excited when this fish hit it was far better than catching it myself
My first fish was a catfish caught off a troutline near the Buchanan dam in Austin Texas fishing with my grandpaw. Now for my grandkids it's my turn.
