20150819- went back to check on the condition of the surface water. it cleared up considerably due to strong afternoon winds so i tossed a few casts out. testing the late pm bite for crappie hitting  them right away. using a 7' UL spinning rig with 2-0# ice braid with a purple black Yamaminnow tied on at the end. my favorite dusk / night bait. the action stopped suddenly and the last fish of the night proved to be the best at 12.7" 91% of the Master Angler target size of 14"

20150820-weather was terrible all day… on and off again spotty showers were in the area all day long. Found a gap of about 2hrs without showers using minute cast on the Accuweather app. So I decided to drag the kayak to the lake. It’s a small workout and I’m usually in the water in less than 15 mins. As soon as I got to my spot the winds started picking up but I was in a woods line shoreline so I continued to fish. I brought (3) rigs with me today (1) fixed float system, (1) slip float system and a pred rod with a torpedo top water bait. Started using the fixed float rig straight away but found it difficult to pin point cast into pockets as the bait and float cart wheeled to the target. That’s one of the reasons I prefer slip floats.. they make accurate casts to target. Ended up catching an 8” class B’Gill packed up and left. Forecast is looking better the next few days.

Just caught a brute of a rock bass of 11.25 inches .25" inch short of Master Angler.

20150821-Just took delivery of my 6-0’ Diawa Spinmatic UL spinning rod … fixed a Classic Shimano SpeedMaster UL spinning reel with 6-0# test braid to it and a slip float and pink waxie at the end. Set off to launch the kayak in Wixom Lake. 10 mins later im tieing into a tough battle with a huge panfish… halfway between me and the fish lies a bed of lilly pads. The fish becomes entangled and I release the anchor on the kayak. Luckily the wind drifts me into the fish and I dislodge a trophy Rock Bass. Shakily I measure the fish and it just runs short of 11.5 Master Angler size. Just 2 short years ago the state of Michigan changes the minimum size from 11.0 to 11.5. still a trophy in my books!!

where the big girl lay...

heres a pic of the ol girl just out of the salad...

20150821-so after the landing of that significant Rock Bass i continued looking for a B'Gill bite. The B'Gill were absent from the shallow flats. Obviously the schools moved out deeper and so i follow. I switch up to small panfish jigs in the deeper water to quickly cover the area. I find one dink B’Gill and a few Medium Crappie in about 10’FOW. Then I was justly rewarded with a couple chunk SMB with scorching runs, acrobatics and anchor rope twists. I love, love, and love fighting these fish.

aw man slip stinker !  now thats a heart breaker!!  BUT !!  it still gives you something to try to acomplish !   My money is still riding on you buddy !!

the way i look at it Carl... its still a trophy ... but without a certificate. Just a couple years ago Michigan changed the Rock Bass minimum length to 11.5 from 11.0... to me still a once in a lifetime fish for many fisherman.

and thank you for the confidence buddy
