That's my #4 Aberdeen rig that caught several W and Y Perch and Gills, this summer . I tipped with Worm pieces or Hot dog pieces .

John what has been your most popular bait on this rig.?  have you tried any artificial or gulp with this setup?

Crawler  pieces usually is the best I've used  .Meal worms and  hot dog pieces work well also. I don't recall using Gulp on this rig .I use Gulp maggots on tiny ice jigs when ice fishing .

John this really caught my eye... there is Houghton lake just north of me 45 mins or so and is one of the top producers of big bluegill in the state. recently i read this article on line ...

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/mscms/fishing-articles/michigan-b...

and here is the excerpt from the article...

describing a similar technique and lure. very interested in using something like this when i hit that lake next year. thank you for sharing.

Great article and info Ken! I admit to being a little dubious in regards to the thirteen inch bluegills though! ;)

the comment...'with a few touching the 13 inch mark'...were there any photos of these incredible fish?

Sounds almost beyond belief, given the location of Houghton, or any other water, in the nation. Just wondering.

Ken...I did a quick study from the Michigan DNR Angler Awards site...great info, BTW!

I sent a comment to you other discussion on the '10-inch Bluegill Trophy Quest 2014' that you put up. Maybe you could check out a few of the lakes I listed and see if they are not too far from you...might have a better chance at that coveted 10 and maybe even a lifetime trophy.

i think they do a great job too... however their recording of pictures is lacking. ... and thanks Jim

My pleasure Ken and thank you for your post .It's got me more psyched to use this technique and rig  .In some book I read (it may have been Byron Dalrymples book , 'How to rig and fish Natural Baits) I recall a passage that said something like,"adding a small spinner ahead of a baited hook ,improves results".

Drifting over basins I like dropping, dragging, lifting , dropping , dragging, lifting etc, using a driftsock if necessary . I've caught White and Yellow Perch and Gills late in the year doing that .The take often comes on the lift .Sometimes they are already on .

The spinner rig like this is a big white perch setup in many of our local reservoirs.
