Do you love big bluegill?

OK so I'm going fishing tomorrow and planning on going throughout the months and would like to try and use some lures on 1 pole and Meal worms on the other one. So all of you Gill hunters come out and share your favorite Lures for the big Bluegills!

Hey Maison, You can't beat worms or crickets for your live bait poles. As for lure selection and if you are using ultralite gear, try the Keystone Minnow by Renosky. You can normally pick them up at Wal-Mart or K-Mart. Around here in Georgia, they are a fast seller, so if you can find them, snatch up a few. They are great on all species of bream and will do a great job on crappie too. I have caught gills on 1/32 ounce rooster tails, 1" curl-tail grubs and the Beetle Spin too. That's a pretty wide choice but they will work in given situations. Good fishing, Nick.
They are hard to cast without a splitshot, but the panfish stopper by K&E is outstanding for big gills. The regular sized bass stopper also works very well. Good luck!
Try adding one piece of GULP maggot to the trailing hook of the panfish stoppers...turns sniffers into biters.

I wrote this back in January... "My favorite lure for Bluegill in a tiny spoon made by Dardevle called a "Skeeter" in the "frog" green color. Comes with a small double hook that needs to be sharpened. I use this on 2 lb line and it is just dynamite during the spring and summer months! Make as long a casts as you can (use a long rod helps) and use a steady slow retrieve. Most fish just have to try and kill this lure!" Now I have caught more average-sized fish on this spoon than really big ones, so I would say that my favorite "big" Bluegill lure is the same tiny black 1/100 oz jigs that my friend and fellow member Jim Simkins uses. Awesome!

Marty, Try a small microspoon (www.microspoons.com) with a waxworm tipping. 'Gills and crappies jump all over em when allowed to flutter down on their own. The small company just introduced a new model ("Elite") which has a small propeller up front -works on both horizontal & vertical retreive modes, and has been killing fish for me lately -very inexpensive,yet durable lures!
