here in illinois they live in golden rod plants.after the first hard frost i could probably get 100 of these on my property

The golden rod is blooming here now. I haven't found any with galls yet. I plan on harvesting as many as possible this year. Everyone seems to like the gall floats.

you know....you guys are probably right, i was racking my brain as to what weed it was and only came up with milk weed, but it very well may be the goldenrod. i actually did dig out the grub inside one day after reading about it and a nice grub, looked like definite blugill bait.
