Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

well im happy to say i broke my biggest bluegill record bye about a inche and a half so eight and a half inches .but am not happy to say i used a spinning rod and didnt get a picture :(
any ways i caught it on lake washington and i was using a small spinning rod with a with a olive bead head hairs ear fly. it was amazing me and my cousin were riding our bikes along this public dock thing and came upon this big group of bedding gills it was pretty easy at first but they got smart. of course all were releasd safely. im not totally sure they were bedding because the next day the wernt guarding there nests but were just cruising around and being skitish.also some wierd old guy came and told us to leave and stop fishing even though it was a public walk way with no posted NO FISHING signs.
any ways thought u guys would like to know
thanks

Good job. Your nine-incher is right around the corner.
Nice and certainly a very respectable bluegill Flytyer!.....They all feel great on an ultralight!
thanks guys
thanks 2ilgill i will keep that in mind
WAY TO GO BUD!!! Bruce is right the 9 or maybe even the elusive 10 incher is right there! That my friend is why we all are still chasing these gills. I have a 12 and I'm still hungry for the 13! Any gill I get over 8 gets my blood thumping! Keep at it, its out there!
HOLY CRUD 13?????? thats amazing
If you are not happy using a spinning outfit, you should get rid of it . Life is too short to use equipment you don't like if there are options. Mike
mike the only reason i was using spinning gear is because i was at my cousins and it was all he had. if i would have known that i ws going to be going fishing i would have had my fly rod.
but really i wasnt thatr botherd just not perferd
As long as it's a bluegill (or a marlin) on the end of my line, I really don't care. Yeah, I love to flyfish. I think flyfishing for bluegill is more fun than a human being should be allowed to have, but catching them is really fun on ultralight spinning gear or derricks as far as I'm concerned. Cheers. Opa.
Thank you for the clarifaction. I should have seen that situation.
I love to chase the gills with a fly outfit also. Right now, I am having shoulder issues that are slowly getting better. Meanwhile I had a hybrid rod made up using an 8 1/2' 3 wt. 2pc blank with 12 light spinning eyes. It is a spinning outfit and I am currently enjoying the fruits of both worlds so to speak.
I don't have a smidgeon of doubt that your personal best will continue to inch up in weight and length.
Wish you tight lines, Mike aka- ole giller
