Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

i just started fly fishing last year, so I have only used a floating line. If i wanted to fish clousers and streamers, will they get down ok with floating line, or is a sinking line the way to go?

Bryce, I use an intermediate sinking line probably 95% of the time!!! IIt sinks at a rate of 1 1/2" to 2" per second!!!!! I also have on that sinks really fast for fishing deep water!!! Depends on how deep your water is, is  it flowing water, stillwater???

Depends on water depth and movement, if your fishing still water less than 6 feet deep a floating line with a florocarbon leader or lightly weighted flys will work just fine. Deeper than that or in moving water an intermediate sinking line will get you down to the fish better.

Most of the lakes and rivers I fish here in Florida are relatively shallow so i fish a floating line most of the time and use lightly weighted flys when I want to get deeper or am fishing some current.

I fish lakes in Lincoln ne. They are new lakes to me so I'm not exactly sure what depths I will be fishing. I saw somewhere about a sink tip line. Anyone know the benefits of those?

I generally use a floating line and weighted flies.  I fish waters from 0 to about 20 feet deep with a floating line.  I also have a sink tip line, an intermediate ink line, a couple full sink lines.  It depends on where and how I plan to fish.   Around home in the shallow Florida lakes there isn't much need for any sink on my line.  I do however have some short pieces of lead core line that I add to my leader.  I have a loop in each end so I can remove the leader, attach the lead core to my fly line and add the leader back on.  The lead core line I use is thirty pound test, and I have pieces from 24 inches to 48 inches long.   This works well for the faster rivers in Michigan.  I used this set up here on the St. John's and it was too much, just a weighted fly worked well.
