Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I just lost my favorite Bluegill rod when a very large Coppernose pulled it out of my float tube! I'm so bummed out! It was an older 5' Quantum Microlite with a tiny Shimano reel. Not a lot of money involved, but that little tiny rod was awesome and very durable. The tip was very thin with two fly rod type guides. That rod would make a small fish feel big! At least I have caught lots of fish with it throughout the years. Does anyone know where I can get another rod like that? I guess I can try ebay or try to find a blank like that and make my own. I've never seen a rod or rod blank with such a tiny diameter tip though

I'll keep my eyes out for you, Does it matters if it's over 5'?
No, length is not a big deal. I know there are lots of nice UL rods out there, but nothing I have seen compared to that little Quantum.
Yeah Walt, I bought mine about 14 -15 years ago, I think from Walmart. My then 13 year old some broke it in just fine with a 3 lb Channel Catfish! That little rod can be seen in action by that same son of mine (Corey) 15 years later at Lake Barrett, CA. while he battles some very large Bluegills by clicking on the above attachments. I gotta find one of those rods!

I have St Croix 4 1/2 foot ultra light action fitted with a garcia reel . I have a great amount of respect for this rod. It is so light you can hardly feel it
I like my old Quantum Microlite rod and the tip broken a long time ago. Lot of fun on 2 lbs test line and small lures! I suggest that you can check out Bass Pro Shop Micro lite rods. BPS have 4 ft 6" and 5 ft Micro Lite rods for $45! I use BPS 7 ft 6" UL Micro Lite rod and I like it very much! I just bought a St. Croix 7 ft Ultralight rod recently and It feel real good. I can not wait to try it very soon!
Other rod is pretty close to Quantum MircoLite is Bass Pro Shop MicroLite Elite Spinning reels or combos. 4 ft 8" and 5 ft. Ultralight IM8 Graphite Combo is $60.

I am sure that you can find a rod what you want in eBay or somewhere in the internet and good luck!
Search Quantum Lite on ebay, I think the rod you had is in the mix. ole Mike
I have a little Shakespeare 5ft microlight I picked up at Academy for $13+change just a few weeks ago. Nice little rod. GREAT for the money!
The micro lights I first saw with Quantum name on, were fiberglass and buggy whips. Then they came out with IM6 versions, then other names began to appear on the blanks. My two say Browning, but I believe them to be same blanks. Have 5',6',and 7' lengths here. The BPS micro-lights I think are the latest re-incarnation. steve b
I also am constantly in search of a better, lighter, gill rod.
so far the best I have found is the 5' shimano convergence UL rod.

best action I have yet to find.
I have been a big fan of Jim Gronauer's articles in Infisherman about ultra lights. Not wanting to spend mega bucks for a custom rod like his 2 wt flyrod blank, I searched for a commercial rod that fit my needs. I found that the Bass Pro Shops Wally Marshall Mighty Lites WMM80-2UL, which is an 8foot IM6 graphite rod good for 1/64th oz. to 1/4 oz. is great. The key was using 2 lb. Fireline, it is so strong, yet like a spider web. I use it on a small Quantum 10 Snapshot reel. You should use a reel that balances the rod weight, but a larger reel is actually better. Good luckj with your quest. I do find this rod harder to fish in a kayak, but it's so much fun.
I had one of the Quantum Micro's. Was telling the son about them the other day. Funny see them mentioned here. I had the little 4' or 4'6" with the little underspin. Come to think of it I could use one of those underspins.
Anyway. My current favorite UL setup is a St Croix. Triumph 5' and a Shimano Symetre 750. Love it.
any of you guys ever think of taking a fly rod blank and then putting the cork handle kit that they use for spinning reels and then putting that on the fly rod blank?? I think tht would make an awsome ultra light rod, say a 7'6" 3 weight fly rod or somethihng like that....
