Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I would be really interested in doing a fly swap. I am thinking panfish flies. Would anybody be interested?

Bryce, I would be interested. Have you done a swap before? would you be the swapmeister? I am in two monthly swaps now, one has 13 swappers the other 11, it's always fun to wait by the mailbox to see how the flies turned out.  Swapping improved my tying, who would want to put junk on the street, sometimes I have had to tie a pattern five or ten times before I was satisfied enough to give it away.  I have given rejects to my friends and even mailed some off to fellow bloggers. I tied some #18 wd-40 flies in Jan. previously I never tied anything smaller than a sz 14 hook. so it's a good way to seek the next level in tying.  I think its a great idea to have swap on the BBG site.

I have never done it but I have always wanted to do it. I think it is a great way to see what other people use to catch fish. I tie mostly bluegill flies, that don't resemble any particular bug, but they catch me fish. I just started tying bass flies and crappie flies. I would love to get in on a swap with people though.

Would like to join in the swap.  What are the guidelines on how to participate.  Winter headquarters are in Lafayette Ind. with our soft-water fishing being done in the central upper peninsula of Mich.  Only been tying for a short time so my work is not as pretty as many others but I do get a few fish in them.  Dick Kahle

The easiest way I can think of is that if everyone wants to pm their address to me I will pm you back an address and we can send maybe 10 flies? Any other suggestions?

Hi Bryce

my email:  decoyden2@yahoo.com

snail mail: Dick Kahle

                11690W  West Thunder Lk. Rd.

                 Manistique, Mich.  49854

That seems like a great way to do it.

in addition to Mike's link to crappie.com more suggestions:

1. limit the number of swappers 10-12? so we know how many flies to tie. Usually the swapper does not get one of his own flies back.

2. set a deadline for mailing the flies

3. make sure all know the return envelopes must have stamps not stickers!  the stickers are dated and will be out of date and unacceptable to the post office by the time the swapmeister mails them back to the swapper.

4. establish rules for the swap as in what fly to tie, nymph, dry, wet, (I don't really want to receive 12 wooly buggers) (LOL) I personally like swaps where each person ties a different fly.  Tiers could post what they are going to tie so as not to duplicate.

5. A lot of swappers, me included, usually sends an extra fly or two to the Swapmeister for their trouble

Count me in!  Maybe we should have a "sticky" thread on this?  Or maybe someone start a "group" for swaps?  I'll keep an eye out, so we know how many of what to tie.
