Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I would welcome any input and advice ragarding the use of minnow traps. How to bait them, what to use, where to locate them etc. There are a couple of small creeks in the area loaded with moinnow but my luck in trapping them has been very limited. Can you help? Thanks, in advance.

I have been meaning to ask the same exact question! Thanks for posting this one.
i have used the rectangular metal cage ones you get at cabela's, take a can of cat food poke some holes in it, drop it in the trap place trap in deeper hole on creek, come back in 2-3 days
might even have some crawdads' if you put a chicken leg in there
My trap is 2 piece plastic. I use stale bread. A good hole 2 to 5 ft deep. Can catch a couple dozen minnows in a night. Remember to tie a rope on and tie it off. If I leave a trap very long unattended they will grow legs. Good luck
I make my own traps for use in my pond and beef liver works great for me, pumpkinseeds, trout, golden shiners, and crayfish seem to like it.
heres the idea i use, i have the metal cage stile that opens in the middle i put a 1/2 peanut butter sandwitch in it ( packed ) i use it at the river in slow current ,try it it works for me, and yes i do get some craw dads also.
And, be careful not to lose the cable tying the trap to a tree. I never did get it back.
