Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here's a simple fly I tie using only five seed beads, red vinyl rib, black bead chain, and craft trim flash.  I lay down a base of white thread, tie on eyes, thread five 11/0 orange seed beads on a piece of red vinyl rib and tie on both ends of rib loosely and pull until seed beads form a small loop under eyes. Next tie in a piece of craft trim that the cotton core has been pulled out, and separates strands for tail, trim  tail to length desired.  You can color top with markers and leaves belly white for different color combos.  Coat with epoxy if you like but I find they fish just as well without the mess.

Nice looking fly!  Can you get 11/0 "cut" seed beads?  They have a facet or two cut on the sides.  Might add a little more flash and sparkle to your fly.

I'm sure there out there.  I got these at Hobby Lobby and there was a huge selection of sizes, shapes and colors.  It's amazing what you can find there that can be used for fly tying.

Yup.  I hit one up here locally and scored some good stuff.

If you can't find a local source, try googling "Crazy Crow Trading Post".  I used to buy stuff from them many, many, moons ago when I did Indian Beadwork.  I'm pretty sure with the Internet being the thing nowadays, that trading house probably has a webpage.

Nice fly. I love the hobby stores for finding things to use for tying. The ladys that work in the two store I shop the most are always interested in seeing what I'll use next!!
