This is htg true. Jim S. and Odd Bob (my fishing partner) were fishing the Miss. R backwaters' Jim had a large watersnake actually take a bait. In the following confusion Bob hollers "I'll handle this!", whips out a .45 pistol and soots the tip 6 inches off Jim's rod. No more problem.

sounds like Bob is more dangerous than the snake. I have also caught (the same) a snake on my fishhook in my grandfathers OK pond. It only got away the first time.
