Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Been researching different fishing methods and came across an article on Tanago fishing where the idea is to catch the smallest fish. Any ideas as to how you could catch the smallest bluegill. Equipment, hook sizes, poles.

Thanks

Thank you for the link

4# or less line, 14 hook, maggot or waxie. Hand held, no float.

Thanks, I plan on using a 5 foot South Bend telescopic pole with a # 16 hook and a small piece of worm for bait. I found some Asso One lb line  at Your Bobber's Down. Should make for a very interesting day's fishing next week.

Appreiate the advice

This is pretty much how I do it.

Thanks for the link, I am actually shooting for 1.5  inch or less. Taking the road less traveled and trying some micro fishing . Appreciate the fly rod tip.

Joe, A few years ago at a tying show there was a guy tying behind me!!!! During a break I turned to see what he was tying!!!! He was tying a knnit boddied nymph on a size 32 hook!!!!! Just to see it I had my cheaters on and his jewlery specs on!!!!! This was a fly they use in England to catch a minnow of some kind!!!!! He gave it to me and I showed it off, but somewhere a long the line it was mistaken for lent or fuzz and throw out as trash!!!!!!! That will get you to a small GILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greg

Thanks, I may have to look at fly sized hooks. My intent was to use the hooks for bait fishings but do bluegill eat nymph or midges. I've seen midges at the #22 hook size. I guess I could find smaller. I think one lb test would be about 8x tippet?

I dunno, I always seem to catch the smallest ones. I didnt know there was a name for doing it , though.

10" gill? You're kidding, right?

Dave

I never seen or caught a 10'' gill, I'm looking for 1.5 inch or smaller. The concept in the US is called micro fishing. I'm trying to figure out what type of tackle to use. I currently have a 5 foot South Bend Telescopic pole, one lb Asso line and a few #16 hooks.  I'm using a 1/2" by 1/2" foam stickly sheet as a strike indicator.  Let's see how it goes, should be a blast. I'm fishing this Monday since it's been decent weather in NJ and I need a break from the ofice

Micro fishing - yeah, I saw that, too. Once again, I didnt know there was a name for it. LOL!
