It works good when you see the gills hitting the surface bugs, I put on a clear bubble and about a 5 foot leader to the fly. It think they called it the poormans fly rod, but it seems just as effective.
Thanks for the info I have the gear and the gills at my local hole hit the surface hard for about an hour every evening cant wait to try this out tonight.

I have used the bubble with spinning rod with really good success on bluegills and crappies.I am  now using about a 10ft segment of an old 8 wgt level fly line insead of a bubble with a 6 ft leader and attached fly using a 7 ft light spinning rod.I have also used a 8 ft B&M jig pole with a 10-12 ft segment of fly line in place of the bubble.I use either an open face or a under spin close face.I notice that there is a company selling a short fly head to take place of a bubble. In my case I have to put the fly line out side the rod tip in order to make a decent distance cast of the lure(fly)I am

using.

I tried the bubble out today and had a couple good strikes. Gonna be hard to break the habit of a jig tipped with red wiggler though. It seemed the bubble made more disturbance on the surface than I would like

I don't own a fly rod, never fly fished, but when I commented to a friend who does that I couldn't seem to pull the bluegills and redears off their spawning beds a couple months ago this is what he suggested.  Next spring I think I will give it a shot.
Tried this out again tonight and liked it a little more. Had a couple really hard surface strikes but I missed them. Will try again this weekend.
Another thing you can do is fish a small jig with a fly tied on a dropper above. I like to  use a top water foam bug with long rubber legs and a jig just heavy enough to slowly pull it under. This will make the drop slow and after the jig and fly are soaked it is heavy enough to cast well.
Yep, been using, on occasion, an adjust-a-bubble with a fly on a spinning rig for pannies, for about the last 30 years. Not my preferred way of catching bluegill, but it does work. Kinda cool watching them strike the bubble, and then turn around and smack the fly.
