Here’s a starter for anyone who wants it. It’s “The Night Before Christmas” With A “Big Bluegill” twist.

T’was the night before Christmas and out in the pond
Big Bluegill were feasting on crawdads and frogs
When up on the surface……. Somebody have a go at that one

One more freebie, to the tune of O Holy Night.

Oh Big Bluegill, my lure is so bright and shiny……If you can tie your own flies or present your lure so that the big ones can’t help but bite, you can finish this song. Just take a Christmas tune you already know and change it to something about Big Bluegill. It helps to have the words to the original so you can refer to it to help you along. This link has a lot of song lyrics. http://www.worldofchristmas.net/christmas-carols/index.html.

Start now in your word processor. Edit it, play with it and worry it until it’s just right. Then when you’ve got it like you want it, copy & paste your entry right in one of these reply boxes.

Jim, right now you're on the naughty list cause you ain't wet a line!

Boogieman
Jim, I know you write fer magazines and all. Maybe you ain't never rhymed much. We'll take the words you said about Tommy and rhyme them to get you started.

I know its a no-contest,
but if I had to vote,
Tommy Winton would get mine!
'Cause all my own rhymes went and missed the boat!
T'was the night before Christmas, and all over the pond
not a creature was stiring, not even Bunny the Blond

The bluegill all tucked in their beds near the bottom
Mom by the stump, she's been there since Autumn

When all of a sudden there came such a clatter
It was a troll motor pushing a canoe was the matter

We rushed to the surface, and much to our surprise
Who could it be but Lord of the Fly Rods

He said " I know they feed you like hogs in this pond
And if you hop in my cooler, we will be gone before dawn

He used his bamboo fly rod just like a baton
And at the end of his line he had a porcupine quill on

He had a #8 hook and crickets galore
What more a tasty morsel a bluegill could ask for

We tried to oblige him, then we got a fright
At the top of his lungs he yelled" your all free range tonight"

We filled up his cooler and he took us home
He filet us all up and took out the bone

He dropped us in batter and then in the grease
He cooked us untill all the flavor we could release

He came in the dark, and his creel he did fill
He had just poached us all from Richmond Mill

Let me finish this story ,and not cause a fight
Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Good Night

MerryChristmas
Lord of the Fly Rods
Bravo! Bravo! Lord of the Fly Rods, and Poems. You are indeed a Maestro! I bow to you, I......WAIT A MINUTE! How did you even know Bunny The Blonde wasn't stirring?

Boogieman
This was great.
Don't give him the big head. It ain't your Bunny. HEY! He was messin' with you too!

Boogieman

I am really gettin' a kick outta this!HA HA!

Tune: Blue Christmas

I’ll have a big bluegill fer breakfast
Maybe I’ll chew his tail fer a snack fest
Then a couple fer lunch Oh I like ‘em so much
I think I’ll have a whole mess fer dinner

Boogieman knows why ya’ll like to release yours
It’s ‘cause you only like to look at the pictures
Well you’ll be doin’ alright, till you turn out the lights
Then in the dark he’s gonna drool on your pictures
Especially John Sikkila's. That boy do know how to whet the boogieman's appetite. He be leavin' them sho' 'nuff sexy ones just layin' around and I be droolin'!!!!!!

Hey John, how about you publish a glossy magazine of your bluegill pictures? Name it something like "Gillboy Magazine". Then I could like drool on the centerfold, make the pages stick together.

Boogieman be watchin' you John. He's gonna sneek around when you ain't lookin' and find out how you get them sexy super model bluegills to pose like that fer you.
Tune: War is Over by John Lennon and Yoko Ono

So now it's Christmas
and what have we done
One fish trip is over
and a new ones begun

And so those are Bluegills
I hope you catch some
For Grandpa and Grandma
and your favorite son

A very merry fish trip
and a pumpkinseed for you
Let's hope you're successful
and at least catch a few

And so this is Christmas
we can all have some fun
Both the rich and the poor ones
with the tangled hook bum

To work is just so wrong
And let the coppernose mate
with a bluegill with red ears
When it should grace my plate

Work is over, if you want it
work is over..........
You're now off the naughty list
And we hope you had fun
We're all richer, not poorer
For the song you have sung

So a very Merry Christmas
We all hope you get some
Big Bluegills to show off
And little ones to munch on
Tune: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

The Santa Gills are comin’ around

Oh! You better watch out
You better not try
For no bass or trout
I’m tellin’ you why

The Santa Gills are comin’ around

They’re makin you wish
For a fish fry
Well wish in one hand
And put some bait on your line

The Santa Gills are comin’ around

They see you when you’re cheatin’
They don’t want no bait that’s fake
Give them some real live crickets
For their Christmas dinner plate

So! You better watch out
You better not try
For no bass or trout
I’m tellin’ you why

The Santa Gills are comin’ around

They know when you’ve been slingin’
Bait stealin’ bass all over the place (Uh Oh)
Even if they are annoying
Release ‘em in a gentle way

So! You better watch out
You better not try
Slingin’ no bait stealin’ bass about
I’m tellin’ you why

The Santa Gills are comin’ around

The overgrown kids at BBG dot com
Will have a jubilee
They’ll gather ‘round their laptops
To see the BBG’s on your string

So! You better watch out
You better not try
For no bass or trout
I’m tellin’ you why

The Santa Gills are comin’ around
