Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have a cloudy recollection from the mid 50's that I hope someone can verify and/or refute:

I also fished East Lake (and swam in the pool) in the 1950s.  My cousin (Jimmy Hightower) was a lifeguard at the pool and preformed humorous diving shows.  I remember his water skiing the length of the pool being pulled by a rope passed through the fence to an automobile.  Sorry, I digress.

I have a recollection that I saw the mount of THE bluegill in a bait and tackle shop across 1st Ave. from the lake.  The bait shop was perhaps owned by a Mr. Alford, whose daughter (Beckey) was Miss. Alabama in 1967.

Any of this ring a bell with anyone????

My father T.S. Hudson caught this fish and I have it mounted. Doubt it was out of his posession ever.
Clay- There's a photo that I just put up (in the photo section) that I believe I got from Bruce that is a fiberglass copy of the world record Bluegill skin mount.
I'm still digging up the info on this I may just make time and write my own article/book of facts vs fictions on the world record fishes :)
