Do you love big bluegill?
Here's a massive bluegill caught on Bill "Musky" Modica's spooning method. This method has been heavily featured lately by In-Fisherman Magazine, both in print and on their nationally acclaimed fishing show.
This fish was over a foot long, and looked like it was taking steriods. I'd love for Bill to describe this particular spoon and why he likes it so much. Bill recommended I use this setup, and it worked like a charm.

Oh my goodness, that thing in the bucket, it looks like a bullfrog with fins.
I've always fished jigging spoons vertically either through an ice hole or over the side of the boat. I'm wondering if these big gills were caught by a horizontal retrieve?
I would say it would be very important to use a single hook on these spoons verses a treble since Bluegills have such a small mouth.
Y'all keep it up and I'll be down at the waterfront tonight throwing a spoon.....looks like a football in that bucket.....Buck Fever is well documented but I'm screaming Bluegill Fever with only one cure!!!!!!!
That is one of the biggest blue gills I have ever seen, No way we get that in texas
AWESOME fish bruce
I would have to say that these are the biggest, fattest , bluegills I have ever seen taken on a spoon.....my guess is that the vicious strikes that you received could only be comparable to running over a brick with a lawnmower....
1/8 oz Bluefox Rattlin' Flash Spoon tipped with a Southern Pro mini Crappie tube......one of my overall favorites.
This pic can give you an idea how big this package really is....
Northern strain!!! That's when my ears perk up! Not a coppernose, not a hybrid, just a run-of-the-mill BG. And a well thought out feed and forage plan, I'm sure.
How far south? If coppernose are present it must be in a warmer latitude. I guess a better question would be how long is the growing season there? What other species are present? How old do you estimate the fish to be? Any other natural forage besides the gambusia, fatheads, and shiners? What supplemental feed is being used?
Please share the details, Bruce...... Inquiring minds want to know....
AWESOME, TIME FOR A SPOON FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Sheehan, you crack me up! LOL.
