Do you love big bluegill?
With hunting season a vague memory, they openned the private lake for fishing. I was there early , it was cool and cloudy and we had the place to ourselves. Cindy, my wife, was, as always anticipating our usual luck at this spot. (80 acre lake and we rarely , if ever, fish anywhere but this one spot on the boat dock. Here's why.) If you could fill 2 five gallon buckets in less than 3 hrs most every time in that spot, wy tempt the wretched chance of anything less happenning? We were getting some ok bites but very few fish and small ones. After a while i cuaght a keeper, and another. My wife had some luck too. We noticed evil looking clouds in the sky and decided we would stay come Hell 'er high water as the 'gills were biting now. I had a Zebco 888 Hawgseeker out for cats and the line was going out. It was in 40 to 50 ft deep water so I wondered what was in store. Quickly hobbling ( the leg I was sittin on was dead asleep) I grabbed it and set the hook thinking big channel cat! It wasnt fighting like a cat but it was bending a big stiff pole near bouble. I played it some and worked it in. I couldnt believe what I saw. A huge blugill! Cindy netted it and we grinned at each other like we had for 28 yrs when things went our way. The pic explains more than I can.

That's one beautiful bluegill!
The only place I've seen gills that big was at the doral country club in dade county Florida.
Jeff Soto- The fish was 2 coke cans and a tail and i just measured a can and got 5 inches so it was between 11.5 and 12 in. long and personally I'd like to mount it as well but Cindy, my wife, insists to eat them , telling me I'll get a bigger one. I think its one of her, if not, favorite things and she's a six ft tall Arkansas delta girl with advanced military training and she might whup my shot up, half dead veteran self. No really it a private lake, 80 acres and full of all types of fish and Plenty of 'gills and I'll get a record breaker some day and yes , mount that!
I don't know Harold,... I don't think I would eat that. ...Because I would be hanging it on the wall! Did you ever measure this fish?
man what a pig;;;;;;; "oink"!!!!!!!!
Leo, you're killin' me. ROFLOL.
That is indeed an exceptional fish. Congrats!
Nice, Leo: "Let us lower the frying pan to half handle...."
Some sorrowful words of wisdom of a fine specimen of a fish who donated its life so you could taste one of the finer things in life.
Let us lower the frying pan at half handle, to commemorate the fallen gill that d edicated its life and flesh to satisfy our belly..LOL. great testimony Harold. Keep them coming.
