Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Tuesday I hit the private lake again to find gills and seeds nesting. The lure I stuck with was a 4cm hot mustard muddler Rapala X-Rap.

While doing a slashbait retrieve with a few pauses and twitches, those bulls and pumpkinseeds were going crazy! The seeds were the ones being the most aggressive. Caught a total of 4 bulls, 3 seeds, and 1 yellow perch.

Also threw a 1/16 ounce white maribu right in front of many. Bluegills weren't too interested but those pumpkinseeds kept on hitting it every time I'd have the jig right in front of them.

Gills were up to 9" 12 ounces and seeds were up to 8" 10 ounces.

Good idea Allen. Other than steady retrieve and slashbait, another good way of using the XR-4 is by hardly reeling while constantly lightly twitching it which gets the teaser tail to dance right in front of them.

The local Dick's Sporting Goods here have Rapala XR-4 X-raps in baby bass.  I'm thinking about getting one to try out.
