I have been taking my kids Bluegill fishing quite a bit this summer here in Missouri. There is no replacement in a tv or videogame for the excitement of when a kid lands a fish.
We have started taking a small trashbag with us when we go to pickup some of the trash left by others and the kids take the bag walking 30 - 50 feet on either side of us picking up soda cups, discarded bait boxes and papers to drop in the garbage on the way to the car. They learn a few things by doing this when we fish. They learn how to fish, hopefully, they learn to appreciate the beauty that God provides us and they learn responsibility for nature and to be a good steward.
