Splendid catches Tony. Man, I'm drooling over that meal.
Excellent hardwater effort! Congrats on the ice-cold red ears!
super good gills tony!! still waiting for you to send a few!!
Great catch, Tony!
Cold water gills are pretty tasty Jeffrey! The RES in this pond have been in there for years....long before I got involved. They do very well here, which I believe is due to a large population of freshwater mussels.
Nice report and solid fish......can fresh cold water gills be beat? How long have those Redears been in this pond Tony? Don't hear much about their growth rates.......Thanks and glad you had a good day!
Got on the ice around 9:30 this morning. Much nicer conditions, with 28 degrees and a light breeze. Our ice is incredible.....around 7" thick. I tried deeper water for awhile, with only a small bass to show for my efforts, so I moved to an area around 13' deep. I dropped the transducer into the first hole I drilled and started marking fish right away.
I pulled seven very nice fish out one right after another, all redears. Then a couple of smaller bass, then some decent bluegills. then back on the redears again. The entire exchange probably lasted 30 minutes, then they were all done. I popped a few more holes ,but no joy. I kept some of the RES for dinner, and let the rest swim free.
This one is wider than the bucket also.
What I kept today:
Fresh fillets in late january....Mmm!
Can't wait! Bruiser red ear! Wow!
