It's weird alright!  Does anyone have the reason why the 'Gills get so pale in the wintertime.  On my local SoCal lake,  Lake Perris,  they don't seem to get lighter in color during the winter.  Just look at LedHed's photos..

Gills were bleached out one year ago in 35 degree water........same area was 47 today.........

I don't catch as many when our waters get down into the 30s but here is a solid Coppernose almost completely washed of all color and fish in this creek during the summer are completely black ............it's pretty crazy how nature works.......I'm in the extreme northern limit of the coppernose range on the East Coast .....don't know all the factors but I have experienced these drastic color swings for a long time here.........
