Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is today's winning combination. We fished deeper water, not the bedding males, so we ended up with mostly females.

Good color combination there! I love those little tubes.

I have a hard time switching baits. I'm one of them people we talk about I don't like change. I know the tubes catch fish but have a hard time leaving my twister tails they are my comfort zone.

Many of the females still had eggs Jim. The beds I can see are either empty, or have smaller males on them now, the larger males having apparently finished up. To compound the issue, our water is low and dropping everyday, already some of the shallower beds are exposed. If we don't get some rain soon, a GOOD rain, things have the potential to get dicey with our fish.

Have the females dropped eggs yet?

We fished this jig both tipped with waxworms, and bare naked. Both ways produced about the same number of fish, but I feel like the tipped version encouraged a few more short strikers to have another go at it. If you missed a take on the naked jig, you might not get another chance without a re-cast.

If the fish were picky, tipped would be the way to go. We fished deep water, suspended the jigs below slip floats and took mostly females.
