Fish were shallow and pounding the jig and cricket......

Yeah, I know what you mean. I listen intently - then force myself to keep quiet. Sometimes that works, sometimes, well..... not so much.
Since I have two ears and one mouth, I try to listen twice as much as I talk.....these guys will send you to the fish occassionally.......I had to go when he stated that big bluegill were hitting his bass sized crank baits.........
Nice. You gotta love them bass guys.
Everything today was Coppernose Jim......Less than 10 percent of the time on this river you'll catch a sunfish other than a Coppernose......There's a few regulars that target gills but not many.....I fished the entire Memorial Day weekend except Monday and didn't see another fisherman looking for gills....one man caught some nice Crappie both Friday and Sunday.......More people were fishing white perch than Bluegill.....
Now isn't that how it goes...? You get a tip from a bass fisherman and next thing you know, you got another hotspot for gills. I must say...the N.C. tidal systems appear to be untapped on big gills. That's why we featured them in the 2012 Panfish Guide.
Jeffrey...are some of those regular bluegills? Not the coppernose variety? And, are you the only guy in Elizabeth City who targets river gills?
Thanks Ronnie......
Those are some pigs. Nice catch.
Thanks Dick.....I've very fortunate to have so many good locations within an hour of me...This was my first time in Mill Dam Creek this year after receiving a tip from a bass fisherman over the weekend. Seems he wasn't happy when Big Bluegill were hitting his Crank Baits over the weekend......
Nice pair of keeper Jeff. You got it down pat.
