I love cold water fishing, its a challenge. Slip Sinker, when the water temps drop to 35 to 38*F the gills will move back to 10-14 FOW. If the water is any cooler it has ice on it lol! Locating them in the cold season is easy, getting them to bite is the hard part sometimes

Outstanding open-water effort for December and with those cold temperatures!

Bravo!

thanks Matt for sharing. I was always interested in bass fishing this time of year in the past now bluegills have taken that over. So basically I'm a newbie and I love to hear the how tos from everybody on their fine catches.

Very nice catch Mat! And I'm glad to hear you commenting on how great the fishing is NOW, rather than bemoaning the lack of ice....I think that oftentimes, those in the ice belt tend to go from productive fall patterns, to wishing the ice would hurry up and get here so they could continue catching fish. I wish more anglers would realize that with a little creativity and ingenuity, great fishing can be had in those in-between times also.

Thanks guys! Slip sinker - these were caught in 5-12 FOW with a horizontal ice jig tipped with a whole red worm. The water temps were 39-40*F...wishing we could get some fishable ice around here but the open water fishing has been amazing as of late.
