Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Just looking at all of the sub-species of bluegill and was admiring the Orange spotted sunfish....well 2 days later out of the blue i caught one. Maybe a little over two inches on a orange 1/64th oz custom jig. Only caught 1 fish at this lake with a max depth of 6 feet with 25 different species of fish. Kinda shocked i didn't even snag something on accident. I seen large corpses along the shore of freshwater drum which is another species i would like to catch some day. Fun evening on the water....that is until the skeeters came out

Very cool fish. I've never seen one in person. If you want to catch FW drum and your out in Ohio, try perch fishing  Lake Erie with emerald shiners fished off the bottom. We usually catch at least a few on every perch outing.

Once the sun went down these little guys were on the top of the water next to this dock by the hundreds. They were all too tiny for a size 10 hook. I thought they were minnows lol

That is REALLY a beautiful fish.  I want an aquarium with some of these guys in it!  I've caught Bluegills that are blue (see "My Page" photos), but they were not as blue as this gem of a fish.
