You might consider light spinning gear, Grayson, with small casting floats. Worms instead if flies might also put a few more of the red ear in the hand.
I know this is sacrilege to the fly man, but hey, it pays to be well rounded.

I hear you. Our banks are the same over here, where the schools of BGs tend to migrate along, covered by plenty of overhanging trees with branches that will not only damage your lines and nap your flies, they will destroy your rods with their rough bodies. This is where dropshots using micro reels on the fly rods come handy.

There is only a couple places that allow for wading on the San Marcos. This area is not one of them, here you have to roll cast or use a very small alley between the trees to cast and pray you don't get snagged on a tree. Chris Kowalski and I have lost our fair share of flies at this spot haha  but as you can see it is worth it!
