That's what I 'm trying to find out myself JB .My home lake is favored more by family swimming than fishing and I understand they want a somewhat weed  free swimming area but the treatments make the water quality and clarity abominable It's up to me as one of the few anglers in the community to bring this up at a meeting .I have to do my homework on Copper Sulfate ,how they are treating ,the effects and costs .I want to question if weed rakes in the swimming area wouldn't be more prudent.I'm just not armed with enough info and knowledge to start making a big stink and need to talk to other dissatisfied members of my Lake Community .If I've  learned anything from this, it's to fish the bottom zone of the lake slowly with jigsand baited spoons when the water color reflects Algae or weed treatment .

Does copper sulfate drive away fish?

3 years ago or so, we drove up north of the Golden Gate to fish a lake in Marin County that I'd heard was pretty good for bluegill. When we arrived there, we found that the shore was pretty good for being covered with goose poop :p The water had been treated with copper sulfate (on that entire side of the lake, which is the shallow side, a local told me). We fished all day without a single nibble, nor did I see even one fish of any size. Not even fingerlings near shore.

I've never been back to try it again, partly because of the lack of fish and partly because that would be over 100 miles from where we live now, but I've always wondered if the copper sulfate was to blame.

Good but not great .Was happy to catch fish with the algae bloom being treated with Copper Sulfate .The water color was horribly milky whitish green but Linda and I found the fish and caught 5 species .I was especially happy Linda caught and played the fish so well. It's only her 2nd time fishing with me this year .
