I saw my first Manatee on the St Johns quite a few years ago near Ocala one February. We had another first on that trip. I caught several small rays while crappie fishing with minnows about a foot under a float.

 Yep Manatees during the winter when it's cold they swim out of the big rivers and into warmer springs. In this picture their packed up in a small spring run off the St Johns River here in Florida. Yes Manatees are protected in Florida your not allowed to harrass them or be in the water near them. There's many popular/crowded springs where this happens  others like this one are hard to get to and nobody goes there, Really Cool place.
