Notice the tree/bush in the background is a wax myrtle budding out.......In my opinion, your chances increase significantly to catch bigger gills when fishing these type of bushes that penetrate the water column creating cover and holding the insects and minnows that the fish are seeking......The Ambush strike at it's best! You give me a choice and I'll fish the wax myrtles every time.......flooded cypress follow closely behind........Paper wasps also take a liking to my favorite trees as well, wax myrtles and dangling Cypress limbs will host Frisbee sized wasp nests during the Summer...Angler beware, specifically when retrieving the hung up terminal tackle or favorite lure passed down from Grandpa! Wouldn't be the first time a fisherman has taken to the water over staying in the boat......Those big red wasps hurttttttt!

This fish slammed the Kalin's Crappie Killer 1 3/4" Acid Rain Jig in Yellow and White.....I always add a live cricket when I'm fishing gills......I was pounding the bank in water temperatures around the mid 60s......The gills caught over the weekend were scattered and the Crappie pictured earlier were all piled up in two tree tops............Water depths fished were between 2 to 5 feet...........Lots of brush and downed trees.............I have 21 bedding locations on this river from the last five years and I usually start checking them right around Good Friday but we have warmed up 10 days earlier this season so I'm hunting early.........I only noticed a few Seeds in some sandy spots this weekend as far as nesting fish go........It is going to break loose in my region very soon........Exciting time to be an avid Bluegill Angler.....but I don't know any....LOL
