Indeed we do Brian.......but my first love is gill fishing followed by crappie so I fish the brackish waters hard.......no reservoirs real close........I do hit the Chesapeake Bay or the Ocean on an occasional trip for Rock Fish, Tuna or big Founder but my first love remains gill fishing and we are blessed in this region. I'm addicted to Coppernose fishing and they inhabit all the waters I fish locally in quality and numbers so it has remained a lot of fun for many years. The nice thing for me is most anglers do hit the other fish and bluegill fishing is often overlooked by most.

Hey Jeffrey, sounds like you have access to all three types of fishing. Fresh, brackish, and saltwater. That would be awesome to have access to all three types. Living in Northern Kentucky we of course only have the freshwater. I will say this though we have some excellent crappie and Gill fishing as well here, although it seems to have really slowed down a lot here the past week or so. Which makes no sense because we have been in the sixties and almost seventy the past 3 days. Happy fishing!

Thanks Jeff.......it is a coppernose.........our fish have already been exposed to water below 50 degrees this season and we experience big color changes with these fish.......Here's a picture from the very same location earlier this summer............Our fish will take on real pale grapefruit colors as the waters cool down into the 30s in the heart of winter..........it certainly is interesting how much they change.......

Great fish Jeff!  That's not a coppernose is it?  Our local CNBG sure look different from this fish.  Look at LedHed's pics and compare.

Thanks Dick.......one of the main reasons I think these fish do so well in these brackish waters is the amount of renewable food sources.......although a tremendous amount of the region gives you the "swampy" appearance it never really gets stagnant so oxygen levels rebound quickly after marsh turnovers and food is always on the door step...........

Hey Brian thanks.......The "Albemarle" is the name of my home region in coastal North Carolina and 99 percent of my fishing is in brackish tidal water tied into the Atlantic Ocean through the Oregon Inlet.................The Coppernose gills have done very well  since spreading north over the years.....

Jeff, Is the albemarle river brackish river or purely freshwater? Is this river close to the atlantic. I've been impressed by a lot of your pics of these healthy strong looking gills. I'm not sure about gills in the brackish water
